Softball Recap: Wilmington Christian Academy's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Wilmington Christian Academy had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Liberty Christian Academy Heat 14-4 on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-7 back in March.

Amelia Naylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Wilmington Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Emily Bloom, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave Bloom a new career-high. Lydia Naylor was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases.

Wilmington Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .143.

Wilmington Christian Academy's record now sits at 3-7-1. As for Liberty Christian Academy, they dropped their record down to 5-8 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilmington Christian Academy will head out to square off against Scotland Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots are facing the Saints at the right time seeing as the Saints are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Liberty Christian Academy, they are taking a road trip to take on Spring Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Heat will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: the Gators will have lost five straight heading into Monday's game.
