Baseball Game Preview: Augusta Orioles vs. Buhler Crusaders

The Augusta Orioles will venture away from home to square off against the Buhler Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Augusta has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 21.

Augusta fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against El Dorado on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Orioles have lost by just one run.

Brody Haskell was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Buhler sidestepped Wellington for a 5-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for Buhler.

Asher Zachary spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits.

On the hitting side, Buhler saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Jared Miller also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Buhler's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Augusta, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Augusta came out on top in a nail-biter against Buhler in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Orioles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
