Basketball Recap: Yorktown Extends Winning Streak to Five

Yorktown had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They blew past the Shelbyville Golden Bears 60-40. The score was close at the half, but the Tigers pulled away in the second half with 34 points.

Yorktown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lilly Sylvester out in front who went 6 for 11 on her way to 19 points and eight rebounds. Sylvester's afternoon made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Fields, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 16 points and five boards.

Yorktown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Yorktown is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Shelbyville, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-8.

Yorktown will host Delta at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Shelbyville, they will venture away from home to take on Rushville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
