Baseball Recap: Shenango Starts off Right with Win over Hopewell

Shenango gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Hopewell Vikings 2-1. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 13-12 loss the last time these two teams met.

Joey Campoli spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Shenango's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Houk, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Hopewell dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shenango will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Aliquippa at 4:00 p.m. on March 24th. The last five games Shenango has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Hopewell, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Riverside at 4:00 p.m.
