Recap: Petersburg Vikings vs. Tucker County Mountain Lions
The Petersburg Vikings''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Tucker County by a score of 30-27. Petersburg lost against Tucker County in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 26-13 score last time.
Despite the loss, Petersburg still got an impressive performance from Trace Edward Rohrbaugh, who rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also picked up 53 receiving yards. Kaleb Kuhn made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Tucker County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddox Anderson out in front who picked up 97 receiving yards and a touchdown. Anderson was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 62 yards.
Tucker County's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Owen Knotts.
Petersburg's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Tucker County and 9-0 Greenbrier West (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.4% over those games). As for Tucker County, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Petersburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Tucker County will be playing at home against Hampshire at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
