Softball Game Preview: Kingsburg Vikings vs. Hanford West Huskies

Kingsburg has gone 7-2 against Hanford West recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Huskies at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Kingsburg comes in on three and Hanford West on four.

Kingsburg had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Immanuel on Tuesday. The Vikings blew past the Eagles 12-2. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.

Alyanna 'Yaya' Gonzales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Reygan Jones was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Woods, who scored two runs and stole two bases.

Meanwhile, Hanford West earned a 9-6 victory over Kerman on Tuesday.

The team relied heavily on Keira Nunes, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Adyson Owens was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Hanford West pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kingsburg, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 7-8.

Kingsburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Hanford West in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
