Rodriguez got a good showing from Austin Krebs, who struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Krebs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tavin Schmidt was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Another player making a difference was Drew Beasley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Northgate never let their opponents score on Saturday. They came out on top against Alameda by a score of 4-0.
Will Jahnke got the start for Northgate and what a start it was: he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Jahnke a new career-high in strikeouts (five). Loukas Contreas relieved him and did a solid job, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Northgate saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Bargagliotti, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Rodriguez's loss dropped their record down to 24-8. As for Northgate, their victory bumped their record up to 22-6.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rodriguez has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443.
