Baseball Recap: Annville-Cleona Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Annville-Cleona, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Tulpehocken Trojans on Monday as they made off with a 6-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Dutchmen in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Colten Shaffer was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zac Frentz, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Annville-Cleona: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9 otherwise.

Annville-Cleona's record now sits at 11-9. As for Tulpehocken, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.

Coming up, Annville-Cleona will challenge Middletown at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dutchmen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. Tulpehocken does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
