Baseball Recap: Discovery Find Success

Discovery proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Mulberry Panthers. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 5-4 victory back in March.

Evan DeVore was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Discovery: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zion Philpot, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Discovery is undefeated when Philpot posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Rosado, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Discovery's record is now 11-8. As for Mulberry, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.

Discovery will take on Davenport in a tournament on Monday. The Broncos will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. Mulberry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
