Recap: Porter Ridge Pirates vs. Marvin Ridge Mavericks
The Porter Ridge Pirates suffered their biggest defeat since December 4, 2023 on Friday. 2024 welcomed they with a 80-58 loss courtesy of Marvin Ridge. While losing is never fun, Porter Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while Marvin Ridge is ranked 79th).
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dennis Kurucu, who scored 14 points. Bryce Yelverton was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Marvin Ridge was led to victory by Cinjun Bridges and Josh Clark. Bridges scored 14 points along with seven assists and three steals, while Clark scored 21 points along with seven assists. Another player making a difference was Brady Dunn, who scored 14 points.
Porter Ridge has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Marvin Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Porter Ridge will be playing at home against Weddington at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Averaging 68.3 so far this season, Weddington's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Porter Ridge better be ready for a challenge. As for Marvin Ridge, they will head out on the road to challenge Cuthbertson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cuthbertson has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 4.
