Lakeland Christian has gone a perfect 4-0 against Victory Christian Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Storm at 7:30 p.m. The last four games Lakeland Christian has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Lakeland Christian fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against McKeel Academy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 6-5.
Fin Donay was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Maclain Irby made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Mookie Rodriguez was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Victory Christian Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Discovery with a sharp 9-1 win on Tuesday. Considering the Storm have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kason Dansforth spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits.
At the plate, Collin Strickland was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylon Mitchell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
Victory Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery only posted an OBP of .333.
Victory Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Lakeland Christian, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lakeland Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Victory Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Lakeland Christian's way against Victory Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Lakeland Christian made off with a 10-0 win. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Storm have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
