Volleyball Recap: Woods Cross Falls Despite Big Games from Sean Vanous and Clayton Schmitt

Woods Cross lost against Clearfield back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Woods Cross Wildcats took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clearfield Falcons. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

While Woods Cross ultimately came up short, they really made Clearfield work, particularly in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 30-28.

Woods Cross' loss came despite strong showings from Clayton Schmitt and Sean Vanous. Schmitt had 17 assists and ten digs, while Vanous had 17 digs. The dominant performance gave Vanous a new career-high in digs. Tino Sa also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

Among those leading the charge was Nathan Toone, who had 17 digs and one assist.

Woods Cross' defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Clearfield, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Coming up, Woods Cross is taking a road trip to take on Box Elder at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clearfield, they will be playing at home against Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clearfield is facing Northridge at the right time seeing as Northridge is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
