Basketball Game Preview: Sotomayor WILDCATS vs. Warren Warriors

Two dominant guards in Jordan Pete and Aniyah Shields are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sotomayor WILDCATS will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warren Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Warren will be up against a hot Sotomayor squad: the team just extended their winning streak to eight. Sotomayor really took it to Taft for the full four quarters, racking up a 62-31 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-12.

Meanwhile, Warren had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They blew past the Raiders 61-38. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Raiders are ranked 858th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sotomayor better keep an eye on Shields. She was instrumental in Warren's win, going 8 of 11 on her way to 23 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Shields' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Destiny Hernandez, who posted 11 points.

Warren is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.9 points per game. As for Sotomayor, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-8.

Sotomayor came up short against Warren in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 61-51. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Shields, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards.
