League recap: Davis overpowering for Ashley in past week

4A Mideastern league recap: 3/20/13

Matt Davis was the best pitcher in 4A Mideastern this week, leading Ashley. He won one game and struck out 12 batters.

New Bern and Rose are tied atop the standings of the league, leaving first place open for the taking.

The Rampants' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only three hits and zero walks, both of which led the league.

There were five hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. The group was paced by Mason Keen, who collected three hits in four at bats for a .750 average.

The Screaming Eagle's Shane Shepard racked up five RBIs this week, more than any other hitter. Shepard has six RBIs this season, second in the league.



Davis struck out nine in Ashley's 10-8 win over Lumberton on March 14. He gave up one hit and one run over four innings of work.
