Baseball Game Preview: Forreston Cardinals vs. Winnebago Indians

The Forreston Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Winnebago Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Forreston has four straight victories, Winnebago has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Forreston needed a bit of extra time to put away Eastland. They had just enough and edged out the Cougars 2-1.

Kendall Erdmann made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Erdmann wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Darin Greenfield, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Kye Alderks also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Winnebago didn't have quite enough to beat Galena on Thursday and fell 5-4.

Forreston's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Winnebago, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Forreston took their win against Winnebago in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
