Recap: West Wendover Wolverines vs. Coral Academy of Science - Reno Falcons
If the West Wendover Wolverines were riding high off their 41-15 takedown of the Incline Highlanders last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. West Wendover fell 50-39 to Coral Academy of Science - Reno on Friday. West Wendover was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Coral Academy of Science - Reno apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why West Wendover lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lesly Tovar. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Tovar is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 13 games she's played. Shay Neaman was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Ashleen Kaur was a one-man wrecking crew for Coral Academy of Science - Reno as she scored 14 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kaur has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacquelyn Lupercio, who scored 11 points along with six steals.
West Wendover's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Coral Academy of Science - Reno, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-12.
West Wendover will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Pershing County at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th. Pershing County is coming into the contest with four straight wins at home, so West Wendover is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Coral Academy of Science - Reno will take on Battle Mountain at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Coral Academy of Science - Reno is facing Battle Mountain at the right time seeing as Battle Mountain is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
