Volleyball Recap: Hudson Explorers vs. Nordonia Knights

Hudson had taken Nordonia down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Explorers fell 3-1 to the Knights. The Explorers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

The match came down to the wire multiple times:three sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. The match finished with set scores of 30-28, 24-26, 25-20, 26-24.

Maddy Dearstine paced Hudson's offense, picking up 17 kills. Dearstine got some help from Evelyn Kenney and her 19 assists. Maribeth Slater controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Nordonia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aleah Sopata, who had 16 digs and two aces. Those 16 digs gave Sopata a new career-high. Avery Palinkas was another key player, getting 24 assists and nine digs.

Hudson's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Nordonia, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Looking ahead, Hudson will venture away from home to face off against North Royalton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nordonia, they will host Jackson at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
