Preview: Wayne Badgers vs. Escalante Moquis
Wayne is 10-0 against Escalante since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Wayne Badgers will be staying on the road to face off against the Escalante Moquis at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Wayne will be strutting in after a victory while Escalante will be coming in after a loss.
Wayne has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 23 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Merit Preparatory Academy with a sharp 52-29 win on Saturday. Given Wayne's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Merit Preparatory Academy is ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wayne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lilly Morrill, who scored ten points along with three steals. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. AJ Vandyke was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, Escalante was beaten by Tabiona 54-27 on Thursday. Escalante has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Escalante, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Everything came up roses for Wayne against Escalante in their previous meeting back in February as the squad secured a 72-41 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wayne since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
