Softball Preview: Verdugo Hills Dons vs. Monroe Vikings
Verdugo Hills has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Monroe Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Verdugo Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Verdugo Hills was able to grind out a solid victory over Vasquez, taking the game 9-5.
Kaitlyn Barba made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Barba was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Jasmine Aquino was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Maddison Roccelle, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and a double.
Meanwhile, Monroe fell victim to North Hollywood and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. Their rough 19-0 loss to the Huskies might stick with them for a while. Monroe's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it seven in a row.
