Football Game Preview: Hudson Catholic Hawks vs. Bayonne Bees

The Hudson Catholic Hawks will challenge the Bayonne Bees at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hudson Catholic has given up an average of 29.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hudson Catholic is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight games on Saturday. They took a blow against Immaculata, falling 49-6. The game marked the Hawks' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bayonne). They breezed past Clifton to the tune of 44-15 on Saturday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Bees with their most commanding win of the season.

Bayonne's win came from a few key players Hudson Catholic will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nico Sampson, who threw for 325 yards and five touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. His passing game has become a key predictor of Bayonne's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Chance Fischer helped Sampson out on the ground, rushing for 147 yards and one TD on only 12 carries.

Hudson Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Bayonne, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-3.

Hudson Catholic didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Bayonne in their previous meeting back in September of 2021, but they still walked away with a 27-21 victory.
