League recap: Valdosta surprises Lowndes

Valdosta scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Lowndes, 37-17. At the time, the Vikings were ranked 10th in the state, while the Wildcats were 43rd.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Valdosta, who took down 10th ranked Lowndes, 37-17.

Coffee's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Keegan McGovern threw for 122 and two touchdowns and Santory Long had 54 yards receiving. On the ground Timareion Simmons chipped in 141 yards. Russ Fender helped Coffee's passing attack out by catching one ball for 53 yards.

On the ground, the Vikings' Nick Burgman has rushed for 510 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Bobby Hill. The Colquitt County star has 29 catches for 466 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Lowndes and the Trojans. The Vikings enters the contest ranked seventh in the state, while Coffee ranks 22nd.

Next week's game between the Trojans and Lowndes will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as McGovern tests his arm against BRANDON ROBERTS's defensive ability. Coffee's McGovern has recorded 878 yards and 10 touchdowns this year, while the Vikings' ROBERTS has three interceptions to his name.

Camden County extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Tift County, 47-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Wildcats.
