Softball Recap: Murray Takes a Loss

Murray extended their losing streak to 14 on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-17. They came up short against the Webster County Trojans, falling 8-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 back in March.

As for Webster County, their record is now 9-14. Considering they have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Webster County's part, Layla Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. Scott has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Cartwright, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Natalie Eversole was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Webster County has already played their next matchup (against Mayfield), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Murray will be paying especially close attention to the Trojans' contest: after the Trojans face off against the Cardinals, they'll take on Murray again at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
