Baseball Game Preview: Chaminade Flyers vs. St. Anthony's Friars

For the second straight game, Chaminade will face off against St. Anthony. The Flyers are taking a road trip to square off against the Friars at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Chaminade took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past St. Anthony's 5-4.

Andrew Caramico looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Collin Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Chaminade's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Nolan Fernandez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

St. Anthony's is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-5. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.67 runs. As for Chaminade, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chaminade has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Anthony's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts.
