Football Game Preview: Woonsocket Villa Novans vs. West Warwick Wizards

The Woonsocket Villa Novans will head out to challenge the West Warwick Wizards at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Woonsocket will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Woonsocket is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Moses Brown, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Woonsocket was ranked 17th). The Villa Novans were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over the Quakers on Friday. The Villa Novans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 21 points or more this season.

Woonsocket didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Raymond Williams and Braylon Guilbeault. Williams also made four total tackles, which is notable because Woonsocket is 3-1 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 2-3 otherwise. Guilbeault got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, West Warwick earned a 27-20 win over Westerly on Friday.

One reason for the win was West Warwick's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Luke Gallo, Davont Beaulieu, and Brody Meschino, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Woonsocket now has a winning record of 5-4. As for West Warwick, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.

Woonsocket came up short against West Warwick when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 14-7. Thankfully for the Villa Novans, James Branch (who rushed for 170 yards and one TD) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
