Baseball Recap: Harlan Wins Going Away Against Middlesboro

Harlan came out on top against Middlesboro on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run fourth inning. The Green Dragons blew past the Yellowjackets 17-2. The Green Dragons have beaten the Yellowjackets the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Yellowjackets has come to flipping the script.

Baylor Varner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Harlan is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Varner was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Luke Luttrell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brody Owens, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

The victory got Harlan back to even at 7-7. As for Middlesboro, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the loss, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.

Harlan will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Yellowjackets: the pair will be back at it again later today.
