Basketball Recap: Valor Christian Snags 16th Victory in Last 17 Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Valor Christian had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They walked away with a 61-51 victory over the Rangeview Raiders. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 76-74 loss the last time these two teams met.

It was another big night for Cole Scherer, who dropped a double-double with 39 points and 12 rebounds. His afternoon made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Brady Wynja, who posted seven points and seven boards.

Rangeview's loss came despite strong showings from LaDavian King and Marceles Duncan. King dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Duncan earned seven points in addition to five boards and four steals. Those 11 rebounds gave King a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenny Black-Knox, who had six points.

Valor Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. Rangeview moved to 26-1 with that defeat, which also ended their 26-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Valor Christian will take on Eaglecrest at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Eaglecrest will roll in looking for their 19th straight win, something Valor Christian surely won't give up without a fight. Rangeview does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
