Baseball Game Preview: Southwestern Rebels vs. Jac-Cen-Del Eagles

Southwestern has gone 8-2 against Jac-Cen-Del recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Rebels will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Monday, Southwestern got the win against Switzerland County by a conclusive 7-1.

Tryson Warren spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Varble, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Jenkins, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jac-Cen-Del). They put the hurt on Crothersville with a sharp 25-2 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won six in a row.

Southwestern pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Jac-Cen-Del, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Everything went Southwestern's way against Jac-Cen-Del in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Southwestern made off with a 10-0 win. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
