Baseball Recap: Hardin Victorious

Hardin took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Coldspring-Oakhurst, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hardin Hornets skirted past the Coldspring-Oakhurst Trojans 7-6. While the Hornets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Hardin's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lleyton Berry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Berry a new career-high in hits (three). Another was Kolten Bishop, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Hardin and bumps their season record up to 8-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Coldspring-Oakhurst, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Hardin will take on West Fork in a tournament on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (West Fork: 3.8, Hardin: 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Coldspring-Oakhurst, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Hull-Daisetta at 4:30 p.m.
