The Westlake Thunder will face off against the Mountain Ridge Sentinels at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Westlake is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Farmington 14-2. 14 seems to be a good number for the Thunder as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Brilynn Attebery was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Attebery was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Ryan Pead was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Addison Conder was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on American Fork with a sharp 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Sentinels in their matchups with the Cavemen: they've now won six in a row.
Like Westlake, Mountain Ridge also got a great game from a two-way player: Red Brooks. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. Brooks has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Lambert, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Chloe Tycksen, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Mountain Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American Fork only posted an OBP of .182.
Mountain Ridge pushed their record up to 22-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Westlake, they have been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 20 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.
Westlake came up short against Mountain Ridge when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Thunder avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
