Baseball Recap: North Canyon Comes Up Short

If North Canyon was feeling good fresh off their 17-0 takedown of Kellis last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. North Canyon came up short against the Vista Grande Spartans on Friday, falling 13-3. The loss continues a trend for the Rattlers in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost three in a row.

North Canyon got a good showing from Eli Villarreal, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Villarreal has become a key player for North Canyon: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, North Canyon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JORGE CORDERO, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

North Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Vista Grande, they pushed their record up to 9-2-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Canyon will venture away from home to square off against Verrado at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Vista Grande, they will be taking part in a tournament against Poway at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Poway's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Vista Grande's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
