Sweetwater's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 44-0 victory over Breckenridge. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Buckaroos: they've now won three in a row.

Sweetwater's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Avila, who rushed for 139 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries. Those 139 rushing yards gave Avila a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Caiden Ortiz, who threw for 168 yards and three TDs on only 16 passes.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Sweetwater proved: they limited Breckenridge to a paltry 1.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Braxton Bartee for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sweetwater didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.5.
Sweetwater didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cason Fields and Jose Quintero. Fields also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine. Sweetwater got some further help from Rohyn Price: he made 13 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Jim Ned was able to grind out a solid win over Clyde on Friday, taking the game 41-34. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Indians' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 493rd).
Sweetwater better focus on containing Cash Gwinn and Stone Griffon as the pair were huge in Jim Ned's win. Gwinn threw for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten passes, while Griffon rushed for 63 yards and one score. Another big playmaker for Jim Ned was Breck Lawson, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Jim Ned, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lawson, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Sweetwater's record is now 4-5. As for Jim Ned, their record now sits at 8-1.
Sweetwater lost to Jim Ned on the road by a decisive 45-28 margin in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
