Baseball Game Preview: John Paul the Great Academy Guardians vs. Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool

The John Paul the Great Academy Guardians will head out on the road to face off against Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. John Paul the Great Academy will be strutting in after a win while Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool will be coming in after a loss.

While John Paul the Great Academy's victory against Psalms Christian Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Guardians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 win over the Ambassadors on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Guardians considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Jacob Angelle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He has become a key player for John Paul the Great Academy: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Luke Salvatierra was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Christopher Credeur, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to Christian Home Educators Fellowship.

Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Domininc Morrison, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

John Paul the Great Academy now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. John Paul the Great Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
