Fort Bend Willowridge is 0-3 against Stafford since February of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. Friday just wasn't the day for Fort Bend Willowridge's offense. They came up short against Almeta Crawford on Friday, falling 21-0. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Stafford never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Royal with a sharp 11-0 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Maxwell Frels was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Stafford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Josh Myers and Zachary Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Myers scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1, while Brown went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Greyson Frels was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Stafford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Stafford and bumps their season record up to 11-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Fort Bend Willowridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fort Bend Willowridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Stafford struggles in that department as they've averaged .489. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fort Bend Willowridge might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Stafford in their previous matchup back in February of 2021. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
