Softball Game Preview: Dundee Vikings vs. Bedford Kicking Mules

The Dundee Vikings will face off against the Bedford Kicking Mules at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Dundee took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Hudson.

Lauren Doane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kiernan Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Abby Marek, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

While Bedford didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Tecumseh by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday.

Bedford is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Dundee, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
