Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Braunfels). They blew past the Victoria East Titans 42-3 on Thursday. Given the Unicorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Titans are ranked 539th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
BROCK STEWART produced another solid effort rushing for 77 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, while also picking up 48 receiving yards.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of GRANT FRANKLIN, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
New Braunfels pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.8 points over those games. As for Victoria East, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.
New Braunfels and Victoria East will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Unicorns see the field they'll take on Boerne-Champion at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. As for Victoria East, their break will end when they face MacArthur at 7:00 p.m. on the 9th.
