Basketball Recap: Voyager Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against East Wake Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Voyager Academy). They blew past the East Wake Academy Eagles 84-60 on Friday. The Vikings pushed the score to 59-38 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had little chance of recovering from.

Voyager Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlos Green, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 24 points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards Green has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Darin Jones, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 23 points.

Loss or not, East Wake Academy got some senior leadership from KJ Nicholson and Dexter Benton. Nicholson had 22 points, while Benton put up 16 points.

Voyager Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, East Wake Academy fell to 6-1.

Looking ahead, Voyager Academy will head out on the road to face off against Triangle Math & Science Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for East Wake Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-56 victory against Research Triangle on the 15th.
