Baseball Recap: Grant Comes Up Short

Grant extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 7-5 in the process. They fell 5-2 to the Montague Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on Thursday.

Grant saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marshal Jones, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

As for Montague, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

On Montague's side, Ryver Jarka made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Jarka was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Conner McKeown looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Montague is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4-1 otherwise.

Looking ahead, Grant will head out to challenge Chippewa Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Montague, they will be playing at home against Calvin Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
