Football Recap: Momence Find Success

Momence's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on Hoopeston/Armstrong with a sharp 43-22 win. The Momence Athletics haven't had any issues with Hoopeston/Armstrong recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Erick Castillo had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 372 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 42 yards and one score. Those 372 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Jayden Dau was Castillo's top target, picking up 152 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Momence's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Jackson Ford was especially locked on to Hoopeston/Armstrong's QB and sacked him twice.

When it comes to explaining why Hoopeston/Armstrong lost, don't look at Nicholas Cardenas. Despite the final result, he rushed for 99 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for five yards and one touchdown.

Momence's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Hoopeston/Armstrong, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Momence will challenge Iroquois West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Momence Athletics will be up against the Raiders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Hoopeston/Armstrong, they will square off against Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hoopeston/Armstrong will be up against the Buffaloes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 46 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
