Baseball Recap: Wayne Academy Comes Up Short

Wayne Academy lost against Simpson Academy last Monday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Jaguars fell 8-4 to the Cougars. Jaguars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cougars since on Tuesday.

Tyler Wooten spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wayne Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cohen Walley, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Wayne Academy and nudges their season record down to 7-11. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Simpson Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season.

While Wayne Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
