Knoxville Catholic junior averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists per contest for the state semifinalists.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020-21 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

B.J. Edwards of Knoxville Catholic (Knoxville) is the 2020-21 MaxPreps Tennessee High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior helped the Fighting Irish go 21-4 en route to the Division II-AA state semifinals.

Edwards averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists per contest, becoming the first Knoxville Catholic player to be named Mr. Basketball in Division II-AA.

Regarded as the No. 102 prospect in the Class of 2022, Edwards has narrowed his list of college options to Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 13.
