Softball Recap: Heritage Takes a Loss

Heritage extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 19 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-16 in the process. They lost 17-0 to the Sullivan Redskins. If the Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 16-0 to the Redskins when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Heritage saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faith Latham, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Latham has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

As for Sullivan, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.

On Sullivan's side, Tabitha Webb was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Webb was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddy Anderson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Harmony Ray was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Coming up, Heritage will be playing in front of their home fans against Marshall at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. As for Sullivan, they are taking a road trip to square off against Blue Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
