Football Recap: Jacob Bynum and Dmarian Murray Pace Cooper Defense

Cooper's game on Friday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They enjoyed a cozy 42-27 win over the Memorial Mavericks. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Cooper had a senior duo take command as Jaden Carrillo rushed for 125 yards and four scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry and Peyton Ewing rushed for 143 yards and one TD on only 15 carries. Those 143 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Ewing.

Cooper was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 353 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Cooper didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Bynum and Dmarian Murray.

Memorial lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jamari Dean, who picked up 202 receiving yards and three touchdowns. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 112.8 receiving yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Castles, who threw for 316 yards and three TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes.

Cooper now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Memorial, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Looking ahead, Cooper will challenge Wylie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Memorial, they will take on Palo Duro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mavericks will need to watch out since the Dons have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.
