Baseball Recap: Murrieta Mesa Takes a Loss

Murrieta Mesa had lost six straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 10-16 to make it seven. They lost 11-5 to the Chaparral Pumas. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Pumas from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Murrieta Mesa got a good showing from Jacob Ryan, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Ryan a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Adam Paine made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Chaparral, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-12. They not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th (when they won 16-2).

On Chaparral's side, Xavier Doughty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits. Doughty has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ethan Udell was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Chaparral's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 9-12 when he doesn't). Aaron Franco was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

While Murrieta Mesa had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
