Basketball Recap: RePublic Takes a Loss

RePublic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 78-57 to the East Nashville Magnet Eagles. While losing is never fun, RePublic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 418th, while East Nashville Magnet is ranked 191st).

Despite the defeat, RePublic saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gracien Niyonzima dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Niyonzima has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dion Garrett, who posted ten points and eight boards.

RePublic's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for East Nashville Magnet, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-9.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Whites Creek the next time they take the court. East Nashville Magnet will host Whites Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while RePublic will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
