Baseball Recap: Plumstead Christian's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

Plumstead Christian dropped their record down to 11-5 on Sunday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They came up short against the New Hope-Solebury Lions, falling 8-2. Plumstead Christian was red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the five contests prior), but New Hope-Solebury's pitchers proved too tough.

Plumstead Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Santi Torres, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Chase Blattner, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As for New Hope-Solebury, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-12. They not only won on Sunday, but they posted their biggest win since March 31st (when they won 13-1).

On New Hope-Solebury's side, they got a great performance from John Whelan as he struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Whelan is becoming a predictor of the Lions' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 2-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Charlie Plebani, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Blake McCagg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Plumstead Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for New Hope-Solebury, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Solebury at 4:00 p.m.
