5A West recap October 22, 2013

Alma extended the longest winning streak in 5A West this week by beating Huntsville, 35-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Airedales.

Toney Hawkins threw for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 9-12 with 1 interception.

Daniel Shimer provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Shiloh Christian topped Harrison. He completed 5 passes for 127 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 163 yards. Shimer's key target this week was Reed Lowe, who caught 4 passes for 118 yards.

Lowe was the best receiver in the league this week as the Saints defeated the Goblins. Lowe racked up 4 receptions for 118 yards.

5-foot-10 quarterback Will Drewry of Greenbrier is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,693. He has also thrown 20 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Rayshod Criswell. The Morrilton star has 50 catches for 646 yards.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Panthers and Shiloh Christian face off next week.

Next week's game between Greenbrier and Josh Floyd's team will feature a good passing match up as Drewry will test his arm against Chandler Smith's defensive ability.

The Saints are in third place, while Randy Tribble's team is in fourth place.

Clarksville made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,197 from 8,105. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 36-29 victory over the Panthers last week.
