Basketball Game Preview: Pender Patriots vs. South Columbus Stallions

Pender and South Columbus are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2022, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Pender Patriots will get right back to it and host the South Columbus Stallions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Columbus took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Pender, who comes in off a win.

Pender is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing East Columbus: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Pender's way against East Columbus on Monday as Pender made off with a 53-27 victory. That 26 point margin sets a new team best for the Patriots this season.

Pender had a senior duo take command as Ryan Howell dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards and Malcolm Driver posted 19 points and eight rebounds. Howell is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last 12 games he's played dating back to last season. Arthur Hester was another key player, putting up two points in addition to five assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

Pender was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, South Columbus was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on January 9th as they fell 61-57 to Heide Trask. The Stallions haven't had much luck with the Titans recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

The win made it two in a row for Pender and bumps their season record up to 4-7. As for South Columbus, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
