Softball Game Preview: Taylorville Tornadoes vs. Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs

Taylorville is 1-9 against Mahomet-Seymour since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tornadoes will host the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m.

Taylorville is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Pleasant Plains.

Peyton DeMichael spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 13 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kyleigh Heimsness made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Mahomet-Seymour never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Urbana as they made off with an 11-0 win. The Bulldogs not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 29th (when they won 15-0).

Rio Casillas was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madi White, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.

Mahomet-Seymour was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Mahomet-Seymour's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11. As for Taylorville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Taylorville came out on top in a nail-biter against Mahomet-Seymour when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Tornadoes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
