Basketball Recap: Mingus Comes Up Short

After flying high against ALA - Queen Creek on Wednesday, Mingus came back down to earth. The Marauders took a 38-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Payson Longhorns on Saturday. The matchup marked the Marauders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Payson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nellie Whaley, who posted three points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Whaley is now averaging an impressive 8.4 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Bailey Cline, who had seven points and nine boards.

Mingus' loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Payson, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Mingus will venture away from home to challenge Coconino at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Marauders' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. Payson and Florence will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
