Baseball Recap: Livingston Central Wins Going Away Against Ballard Memorial

Livingston Central barely beat Ballard Memorial the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cardinals blew past the Bombers 9-2 on Saturday. The Cardinals not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11th (when they won 19-10).

Avery Zaim made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Zaim was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Drew Hosick was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Mason Hargrove was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Livingston Central and bumps their season record up to 6-15. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Ballard Memorial, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.

Livingston Central and Ballard Memorial could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Cardinals (ranked 231st) will meet St. Mary (ranked 52nd) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Ballard Memorial will take on Caldwell County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (215 vs. 32).
